Australian astronomy is a story of indigenous peoples and cultures, colonial exploration and observatories, national research institutions, and international collaborations. Australia’s role in the space age has been limited, but the advent of an Australian Space Agency is fostering better links between astronomy and space. USQ’s research connects ground- and space-based astronomy and is focused on studying the shared evolution of stars and their planetary systems. This research includes use of Mt Kent Observatory and Siding Spring Observatory in Australia, as well as international facilities.
