Bade Uzgil -- The Map and the Territory: Intensity Mapping of Fine Structure Line Emission as a Probe of Large Scale Structure and the Evolving ISM of Galaxies

I discuss prospects for studying redshifted far-IR fine structure transitions through cosmic time using 3-dimensional power spectra obtained with an imaging spectrometer. The intensity mapping approach measures the spatio-spectral fluctuations due to line emission from all galaxies, including those well below the individual detection threshold, thus providing an unbiased and complete view of the gas in star-forming galaxies at a given redshift.
